SANDAN Updates

SANDAN Membership

We have reached 76% of our membership goal and would like to thank all of our Members who have joined or renewed their membership to-date this year. We continue to plug along and bring you the information and updates that you expect from SANDAN. Staff is continually updating the website, planning monthly meetings, and making sure that you receive the information that you have come to rely on from SANDAN. The process of finding the right candidate for the Executive Director position is ongoing.

Member's Events can now be posted on our website. Log in to our 'Members Only' area and complete the form. SANDAN staff will review and update the event list bi-monthly.

Our Member Directory will be released online in mid December. To be included, we must receive your membership or a commitment to join or renew your membership along with a completed application by December 12th. The application contains all the information that will be reported in the directory.

If you have not renewed your membership for the new year, please download the application and send it in with your check as soon as possible. Your support and involvement makes SANDAN the vital tool it is for San Diego's nonprofit community. Thank you.

If you missed SANDAN's "How to Prepare a Business Continuity Plan" on November 3rd, we would like to thank Bill Norris and Kevin Starks for taking the time to share their expertise with us. Their presentation, handouts and additional resources are available in our Resource Library, under the Business Operations category.

Contracting Workgroup meetings originally scheduled for November 23rd & December 28th have been canceled and a single meeting is scheduled for December 12th at 9:00am in the La Vista Room at 3255 Camino del Rio South. If you have any items or questions you would like discussed, please email Jeanine.

Executive Director Transition

The SANDAN Board continues to interview candidates for the Executive Director position. If you know of someone interested in applying, please ask them to review the RFP and \the Strategic Framework and submit their resume with a cover letter highlighting their qualifications and touching on how their experiences will help SANDAN grow.

If you know of someone who might be interested, please forward them the RFP and the Strategic Framework 2006 & Beyond and ask them to submit a proposal.

Local News

USD Center for Applied Nonprofit Research, a SANDAN member, releases "A Spotlight on San Diego's Third Sector" on 11/13/06. The report covers growth of the sector during the period 2000-2004, nonprofit workforce, local contributions, assets held, government funding, nonprofit leadership needs and much more. more info

Nonprofit Management Solutions has been chosen as new site for the Foundation Center of New York's, Cooperating Collection Library. The Center’s initiative to expand its network of Cooperating Collections into new areas, makes Foundation Center resources accessible to a significantly larger segment of the nonprofit community. The new Funding Information Center at NMS offices will provide access to the newest edition of FC Search: The Foundation Center’s Database on CD-ROM, along with a core collection of Foundation Center directories and publications. more info

United Way of San Diego launches major drive to increase workplace giving. more info  Grants will be available for three key focus areas: Stopping Child Abuse and Neglect, Homeless Outreach and Prevention, and Equipping People with Essential Life Skills. Grant info

Congratulations are in order... Nonprofit Management Solutions' Salute to Excellence Awards on October 17th honored Joan Embery for her efforts in environmental and wildlife preservation with the establishment of the Embery Wildlife Institute. FEC Expands Regulation to Voter Guides

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) expands it's federal campaign finance regulation to voter guides that do not endorse or oppose candidates if the FEC determines the guide's overall content implies support or opposition to federal candidates. Nonprofit agrees to pay civil penalty for violation. more info

IssueLab is a wide-ranging, searchable and browse able archive of critical publications. It simplifies the process of locating and accessing research and policy analysis materials, including reports, white papers, fact sheets, case studies, data sets and more. 

FedSpending.org, a project of OMB Watch, is a free, searchable itemized database of federal government spending - grants & contracts.
