San Diego Better Business Bureau Seal of Approval?

The San Diego Better Business Bureau is offering their Seal of Approval to charities, evaluating local charitable organizations for compliance using a set of charity accountability standards developed by the national council and the Wise Giving Alliance. An organization must complete an extensive application and documentation process. Upon review, if an organization qualifies, the BBB grants the organization a nonexclusive, non-assignable and non-transferable license to use and display the Seal for a fee under specific terms and conditions. The purpose of the seal is to assist donors in making informed giving decisions.

SANDAN has scheduled a meeting with the BBB to explore concerns surrounding the seal of approval process and would like to know what issues or experiences you have encountered. Please use our contact form or email info@sandan.org by April 30th.

Healthcare Reform

SB 893 to be heard April 25th - The California Children and Families Act of 1998, requires that the California Children and Families Program Trust Fund, be funded by certain taxes imposed on the sale and distribution of cigarettes and tobacco products and be used for the implementation of comprehensive early childhood development and smoking prevention programs. Services provided by California Children and Families Commission, also known as First 5 California would be eliminated if SB 893 is passed. SB 893 reallocates those tax dollars to provide health care services to children. more information

Cal CARE Plan - The Senate Republican Caucus has a plan for health care reform. SB236 is a balanced and realistic approach to improve consumer choice and introduces better accessibility, while creating greater reliability in California’s health care system. more information

Question of the Month ~

In March, two events were held locally to help prepare businesses for a disaster or pandemic situation. "Ready San Diego" Disaster Preparedness for Small Business, Non-Profits and Faith-Based Organizations was held to provide you with practical tools to create a disaster

preparedness plan and to help ensure the continuity of your operations. San Diego County HHSA Public Health Services held a "Pandemic Preparedness Summit" with the business community. The Summit's objectives and goals were to raise awareness of a potential pandemic influenza and the need to prepare, to introduce Public Health Officials and Business Representatives who are key contacts for pandemic preparedness, to inform the business community about the San Diego County preparedness efforts, to provide best practices and guidance for promoting and advancing business planning efforts, and to build community-based business networking models. If your organization is a contracted service provider for the County, you are required in your contract to have a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) or Continuation of Operations Plan (COOP) in place.

Does your organization has a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) / Continuation of Operations Plan (COOP) in place? Click here to take our poll.
